Fwd: Inuvialuit at the Smithsonian - November 7, 7pm, Northern Life Museum

Sent on Behalf of Sarah Rosolen at Aurora College:

The Aurora College-Parks Canada Speaker Series is proud to present "Inuvialuit at the Smithsonian, Connecting the Present and the Past" on November 7 at the Northern Life Museum.  In the mid-1860s, the Smithsonian Institution collected clothing, tools, art and other objects from Inuvialuit who lived near the Anderson River area, in what is now the Northwest Territories.  In 2009 a delegation of Inuvialuit elders, youth and educators travelled to Washington, DC to see the collection, and to explore ways for Inuvialuit to share information about the objects that had been inaccessible to them for 150 years.

Join Charles Arnold, past curator of the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre in Yellowknife, and Mervin Joe a member of the Inuvialuit delegation and Parks Canada employee, as they share their experiences of this visit and how they are connecting the Inuvialuit community to the collection and to a way of life that was on the threshold of changes brought about by contact with western society.

November 7 at 7pm at the Northern Life Museum in Fort Smith – please post the attached poster in your workplace and circulate to those who might be interested.
