Fwd: Upcoming performance in your community

Be inspired. Be impressed. Be entertained!

The Northern Arts and Cultural Centre encourages the development of the performing arts from all cultural traditions and provides venues in the Northwest Territories for professionally produced performances. This year we want to recognize all communities that we visit on tour and give voice to the people we serve from Fort Smith at the 60th parallel to Inuvik just above the 68th parallel. This year's program is sure to inspire, impress and keep you entertained.

The first show in the communities will be the storytelling festival on tour from September 12-16. For more info go to this link: http://naccnt.ca/events/nacc-festival-events/ko-ke-storytelling-festival

Storytelling performers in Hay River (Sept 14|7pm, Riverview Cineplex) and Fort Simpson (Sept 16|7pm, Bompas Elementary School):

Moe Clark is a multidisciplinary Métis artist, storyteller, spoken word artist, singer, educator, producer, public speaker, activist and self-described, "Mistress of the looping pedal."

Thelma Cheechoo is a storyteller from Moose Factory Island, Ontario, located on the southern tip of James Bay. Her family, who owned a hunting and fishing business on Kesagami Lake, lived off the land while keeping storytelling and music a vital and natural part of everyday life.

Dëneze Nakehk'o is Denesuline and Dehcho Dene from Denendeh. He has over a decade's worth of Northern media and broadcasting experience, a continuation of his family's storytelling tradition. Nakehk'o is the Director of Radio for CKLB, part of the Native Communications Society of the Northwest Territories.

Storytelling performers in Fort Smith (Sept 14|7pm, Mission Historic Park), Norman Wells (Sept 15|7pm, Dennis Drolet Memorial Community Hall) and Inuvik (Sept 16|7pm, Midnight Sun Complex):

Reneltta Arluk is of Inuvialuit and Dene descent and is originally from Fort Smith, NWT. Raised by her grandparents on the trapline in a nomadic environment, Arluk holds a BFA in Acting from the University of Alberta and founded Akpik Theatre, a professional Indigenous Theatre company in the NWT.

Quantum Tangle fuses old-world sounds and new-world flair. Greyson Gritt and Tiffany Ayalik embrace their blended backgrounds, combining their talents of throat singing, haunting melodies and traditional legends. Gritt and Ayalik are excited to present a circumpolar mix of flavours from across Canada and Greenland.

Make Your Own Heritage Minute Student Contest and Learning Materials

Historica Canada (KDAngelo@HistoricaCanada.ca) has requested the distribution of the following contest. If you no longer wish to be on this mailing list please reply with the subject line "Unsubscribe"

Greetings!

We're in the process of promoting a Canadian History-focused contest,  Make Your Own Heritage Minute: Stories of Sir John A. and the Fathers of Confederation, that invites Canadian youth to explore the legacy of Sir John A. Macdonald and the Fathers of Confederation by creating their very own Heritage Minute-style video for a chance to win great prizes, like iPads and Smart Watches.  There are also free bilingual learning tools about Sir John A. and Confederation for both junior/intermediate and senior levels available, as well as specialized French Immersion learning tools for download on our website: www.storiesofsirjohna.ca.

The contest itself is a great chance for young people to get creative with history and we welcome submissions from grades 5-12 and grade 5 to secondary V in Quebec in both official languages. The contest closes November 30, 2015.

I've attached a contest poster for you to read and post in your organization. We're very eager to ensure as many young Canadians as possible have the opportunity to participate in the contest.
